Keith Haring (1958-1990) Bike Seat, 1987 Ink on Mesinger bike seat 9 x 10-1/4 x 3-1/2 inches (22.9 x 26.0 x 8.9 cm) Signed and dated on front: Keith Haring 87 In 1987, Keith Haring went to Philadelphia to collaborate on a wall mural as part of the We the Youth Program, CityKids of New York, and the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia. Located at 22nd & Elsworth Street, it is still there today and has been restored by the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program with funding from the Keith Haring Foundation in 2013. Keith Haring drew on the bike seat, signed, and dated it during one of the days he was painting this mural in Philadelphia. Sadly, the person who owned the bike did not understand the importance of Keith Haring in 1987 and it sat in the snow and rain for years. The bike itself is long gone, but the seat was saved.
