Victor Vasarely, born on April 9, 1906, in Pécs, Hungary, is considered the "father" of Op Art. Initially studying medicine at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, he shifted to art and later moved to Paris in 1930 where he began exploring abstract geometric forms. Early in his career, he worked in graphic design and advertising, championing the democratization of art and its integration into everyday life. In the 1950s, Vasarely revolutionized art by incorporating optical illusions into his work. His geometric patterns created illusions of movement, depth, and three-dimensionality, laying the foundation for the Op Art movement, which gained popularity in the 1960s. Vasarely's legacy endures in contemporary art and design. He passed away on March 15, 1997, in Paris, leaving a lasting influence on how we perceive and engage with art.
