- Self-portrait of the great German expressionist. - The year of its creation marks his 70th birthday. - Due to the size of the print, Heckel may have created the sheet as a greeting for friends and acquaintances on the occasion of his birthday. - The color woodcuts occupy a special rank in Heckel's artistic oeuvre, particularly during the "Brücke" years, but also in his late creative phase.
