- From the sought-after Berlin years, created during Kirchner's third stay on the island of Fehmarn. - In the same year, Kirchner created the related painting “Hafen Burgstaaken, Fehmarn” (Gordon 307). - In his own words, Kirchner made works “of absolute maturity” on Fehmarn in the summers of 1912-1914. - In 1913, the artist spent the summer months at the house of the lighthouse keeper Lüthmann on the “Staberhuk” in the south-east of the island, not far from the present port of Burgstaaken.
