• Atmospheric depiction of the Swiss mountain panorama, typical of Kirchner's watercolors, paintings, and prints made after he had moved to Davos in 1918.
• With large, flat forms and strong diagonal lines, Kirchner created a wide open landscape.
• Sophisticated composition: a symbiosis of color fields and details, as well as a tripartite division of the pictorial space into sky, house and landscape.
• Around 1920/25, Kirchner often painted in Frauenkirch, not far from Lake Davos. He also created the painting “Lake Zurich” (Kunsthaus Zürich, Gordon 813).
The present work is documented in the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Archive, Wichtrach/Bern.
