拍品信息
Bronze with black brown patina. Monogrammed and numbered on the side. Copy II/III, the catalogue raisonné mentions 5 casts. 30 x 29 x 17 cm. . [EH].
- Fritz Koenig interprets the caryatid form, which was already widespread in antiquity, in a unique way. - The composition can be found in a slightly modified form in the monumental "Caryatid I" placed in front of the University of Bayreuth. - The year before “Caryatid II” was created, Fritz Koenig took part in documenta III in Kassel.
LITERATURE: Dietrich Clarenbach, Fritz Koenig. Skulpturen. Catalogue raisonné, Munich 2003, no. 358, illustrated on p. 104 (different copy). - - Peter-Klaus Schuster, Fritz Koenig. Skulptur und Zeichnung, exhib. cat. Munich/Berlin 1988/89, p. 16 ( illustrated, presumably a different copy).
Private collection, Southern Germany
In 1965, Fritz Koenig "took up the motif of the carrier figure in the Caryatids [...], which had already been touched on in the 'Gerahmte Figuren' and the 'Votiven.' They do not have a structural context and are not shaped according to traditional models but rather illustrate the theme of carrying, burdening, and being pressed in an abstract formulation. Twisted, proliferating forms appear - in place of the figure in the 'Votives' - between strict cubic forms, now marking the zones of radiation of force, changes of force and direction." (quoted from: Peter-Klaus Schuster, Fritz Koenig. Skulptur und Zeichnung, Munich/Berlin 1988/89, pp. 16f.)
In very good condition.
