- Large-scale, expressive work from the 1980s, a period that was so seminal for Sigmar Polke’s artistic development. - Polke at his best: ironic, complex imagery with narrative elements and subtle social satire. - A dynamic play of power, observation, and audience engagement expressed through spontaneous, gestural lines. - Created using Polke’s signature “layering” technique. - The international retrospective “Alibis: Sigmar Polke 1963-2010” honored the artist’s life’s work in 2010 (Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; and Museum Ludwig, Cologne).
We are grateful to Michael Trier for his kind expert advice.
