The use of falconers or sokolniki as imagery in 19th century Russian enamels was a reflection of the rich cultural and historical traditions of Falconry, a romantic symbol of both nobility and leisure. This exceptional tea service, comprising teapot, covered sugar, creamer, strainer, and tongs, from Kurlyukov is singular as an example of Rückert's masterly treatment of the theme in his work.
