Tadamasa Hayashi (1854-1906), Tokyo and Paris (Lugt 2971); Henri Vever (1854-1943), Paris (Lugt 2491bis); His posthumous sale: Sotheby's, London, October 30, 1997, lot 157;
Print presents well with the distinctive blue bokashi beginning at the base of the river rather than the top indicative of an earlier, first edition impression. Condition of the work is consistent with its age. A mild vertical center fold line, pressed flat. Mild toning to the sheet with a few isolated spots of foxing primarily evident verso or in uninked areas recto, do not appear to majorly impact image, inked colors still appear vibrant. A few pencil inscriptions and collector's ink stamps in lower corners recto and verso. Three small (1/16") wormholes upper left corner with one within the image background; a few additional, negligible pin pricks throughout the sheet, consistent with age and weight of sheet. Sheet appears to be slightly trimmed due to the partially visible publisher/censor seal recto lower left. Vestiges of hinging along verso upper edge. Unframed.
