Adam Fuss (British, b. 1961) Untitled (Spores), 1998 Unique spore print 23 x 16 inches (58.4 x 40.6 cm) (image/sheet) Signed, dated, and inscribed in yellow wax pencil, verso. A spore print is a unique creation that, like much of Fuss's artwork, is made without the use of a camera. Fuss creates these prints by placing mushroom caps face down on paper and covering them to maintain humidity underneath. Over time, the mushrooms release spores, which fall onto the paper and form impressions that capture the intricate patterns of the caps' undersides. For the spore print showcased here, Fuss arranged multiple mushrooms and covered the entire composition with paper. This paper was carefully pierced to allow airflow, intentionally disrupting the placement of the spores and resulting in visually captivating effects.
