Ilse Bing (German/American, 1899-1998) Blau Montparnasse, Paris, 1933 Gelatin silver print, printed 1991 9-5/8 x 13-3/8 inches (24.4 x 34.0 cm) (image) 11 x 14 inches (sheet) Signed and dated in ink in the image. Signed, titled, and dated in pencil, verso. PROVENANCE: The artist; Abe Frajndlich, gift from the above, circa 1995. As Ilse moved around her adoptive and supportive city of Paris in the Thirties, she was always attuned to the medium she was using to express herself, photography. This signage for a photo studio high up on a (batiment) building certainly caught her attention as she was practicing her craft at a very high level. Overall very good condition. Undulations to the edges of the sheet. A very few small spots of retouching visible under close inspection. Bumps to the corners and a small crease to the top left corner margin, not affecting the image. Sheet is loose, not framed.
