Fascinated by the creative possibilities of print-on-demand technology, Stephen Shore began experimenting with Apple's iPhoto service in 2003, producing a series of books. Each book served as a visual chronicle of a single day's activities. The focus of the project evolved in August 2005 when Shore decided to create a book wherever he was in the world on any day that The New York Times featured a six-column, full-width banner headline, signifying a major news event. The Book of Books is a highly collectible, two-volume edition limited to 250 copies, comprising all 83 of these print-on-demand books. Each original layout, including blank pages, is faithfully reproduced at actual size and arranged chronologically, allowing collectors to engage with the project exactly as Shore envisioned.
