An Italian Silver Covered Box with Micromosaic Plaque, 20th century Marks: BARGIONI, 925 2-3/4 x 8-1/8 x 6-1/8 inches (7.0 x 20.6 x 15.6 cm) 1084 grams (34.8519 troy ounces) The micromosaic plaque depicts the tomb of Caecilia Metella, a mausoleum on the Via Appia. This highly pictorial ruin was a frequent stop for visitors on Grand Tour, as well as a popular subject for vedute works. Property from the Collection of Frederick H. In overall very good condition, with minimal wear throughout. Silver box with several pin dents, minor push to one corner on lower edge, and light wear consistent with age and polishing. Micromosaic panel with no restoration observed.
